Sierra de Cebollera  (day 10)

back to the tour

Today we take the high road, and what a spectacular place this is! If you like winding, mountain roads, this is the place for you. I never tire of crossing these peaks; it's always an exhilarating experience. I don't know if it's the pure, clean air, or the smell of the pine trees that turns me on, but when I'm on my bike in the Sierra de Cebollera, I'm probably at my happiest.

The Sierra de Cebollera is one of the best preserved regions as far as fauna, and especially where its excellent forest areas are concerned. The park is surrounded by the central mountains of the Northern Iberian Mountain Range, in the region of Cameros, on the border of the province of Soria. In this protected space, there are some of the best examples of forests in the Iberian Mountain Range.

The most outstanding natural forests are of wild pine, beech and Pyrenean oak groves, and other more exceptional species such as birches, groves of white oak, mountain holm oak groves and hooked pine. Lime trees, maple trees, service trees, whitebeams, mountain elms, yew trees, quaking aspen and ash trees also appear.

For those of you who get lost, nocturnal birds can also be observed such as the long-eared owl and the tawny owl. The sierra is considered to be an area of international importance for the passage of migratory birds, and it's not bad for biking either.

Tonight we stay in the town of Logrono where there are many restaurants and bars to choose from.

Our bikes will be locked away in underground car park of the hotel.
